A day in the life…
Monday morning meeting. Review the sales figures. They could be better. The product is great and the market ready. We need to do some marketing. Jeff the sales director takes up the mantle.
Tuesday. Jeff spends and hour – mostly thinking about how good the product is. He then decides on a magazine advert. The trade monthly would be best.
Wednesday afternoon. Jeff spends another hour trying to put his sales pitch on paper. So many positives. So many words. It doesn’t read as good as when he’s delivering it. Words everywhere.
Thursday morning. Jeff returned to his draft copy, cutting it down. An hour later the word count is better but it’s lost its impact.
Thursday afternoon. The advert is emailed to the directors for their opinions.
Friday. It’s ignored by everyone. It’s too close to the weekend.
Monday morning meeting. The directors discuss the email. It could be better Jeff. Needs more work.
A week has gone by. Jeff has spent several hours producing ineffective mediocre copy.
The alternative…..
Monday morning meeting. Review the sales figures. They could be better. The product is great and the market ready. We need to do some marketing. Jeff the sales director takes up the mantle.
Tuesday morning. Jeff spends half an hour talking to a copywriter. They agree a brief and he confirms it in one email.
Wednesday and Thursday, Jeff manages his sales team.
Thursday afternoon. Jeff receives an email with the copy all prepared – on brief and effective. Jeff emails it to the directors.
Friday. It’s ignored by everyone. It’s too close to the weekend.
Monday morning meeting. The directors agree the advert works.
So there you go. This is why you need a copywriter.
